*Warning: you may be about to read a “garbage post.”
I’m writing this post sitting cross-legged on my couch, with my hair in a dirty bun, listening to Don’t Speak by No Doubt… I think it’s safe to say I march to the beat of my own drummer. And I’d say that applies to more than just my fashion/ musical tastes.
Case in point: my email inbox.
Thankfully, I don’t really hear people use the oh-so-cringe-worthy phrase, “inbox zero” anymore these days (though that may only be because I’m pretty isolated working from home by myself every day).
But one thing I do hear people say is something along the lines of, “I can’t stand having unread emails. I need to go through my inbox every day.”
This is something I just don’t get.
And obviously, I’m not trying to win anyone over, here. There’s a lot of you people out there who seem to agree that accumulating unread emails is about as uncouth as walking into a church buck naked. Well, I guess you’re entitled to your opinion.
But I just think opening unwarranted emails is a huge waste of time.
I’m on the marketing list for every store I’ve ever shopped at, no matter how small the purchase, regardless of how many times I’ve clicked that pesky ‘unsubscribe’ link. Look; I’ve just got better shit to do than to waste my time sifting through this garbage.
I get so many emails in a day, it’s not even worth my time to try deleting in bulk. I’m just not going to do it. In fact, once my Gmail gets so full that there’s no storage left on the account, I may just move on, make a new email, and start all over again.
I’m not even exaggerating when I say I get a ton of unwanted emails. I even once took the time to set up custom filters to send mail from a bunch of senders directly to the trash, and I still must get at least 100 a day.
I’ve learned just to not let it bother me.
But I know what you’re thinking: if you have all those unread emails, you clearly must not be on top of your shit.
That’s just not true, though.
I check my email. Multiple times a day, in fact. I just don’t waste my time or energy deleting the ones that I never asked for. What can I say; they’re just not worthy of that type of expense! My time is precious and my energy is limited, so today I have 44,133 unread emails and I’m going to let that number keep growing until there’s no room for any more messages 😉
Haha I’m actually the opposite of you! It might be OCD, but I have to have it at zero!
Lol I just can’t maintain an empty inbox. Too much work! 😂
